How to Make Chicken Jerky for Dogs (1 Ingredient)

If you want to treat your dog something that they will absolutely love without paying a dear price, you may want to learn how to make this jerky. This is probably the easiest homemade dog treat recipe you can make for your dog. All you need is just one ingredient.

And that ingredient is: chicken breast. Yup, just CHICKEN! Unlike the commercial jerky sold in store, this treat has no other unknown ingredients added including no preservatives, no salt, no sugar, no nothing. It’s natural and healthy and it’s way cheaper than those overpriced “fancy” jerky!

You can choose organic chicken for the healthier choice if you prefer. Just remember to remove the bone, skin and fats and you are good to go.

Homemade Chicken Jerky for Dog with Only 1 Ingredient

Ingredient:

  • Chicken breast
Ready to toss into oven

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 150ºC.
  2. Slice the chicken breast thinly (about 1cm).
  3. Place the sliced chicken on top of wire rack with baking paper underneath to catch oil drips.
  4. Bake for 2 hours until fully crisp.

Note: This recipe will result in crunchy and crispy jerky. If you prefer more tender and chewy jerky, bake it in lower temperature or reduce the baking time. To determine whether your jerky has been thoroughly cooked, take a strip, cool it, and bend it gently. The jerky should be dry without any moisture squeezes out, otherwise it’s still undercooked and need to go back into the oven.

Storage Guidelines: The jerky will last for up to two weeks if kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator. If you plan to make a big batch, put them in a Ziplock bag and freeze them. Let it defrost for about 15 minutes on the counter before serving it to your goodest doggo.

MOMO 12 minutes after I tossed the chicken into oven: “Is it cooked yet?”

My dog, Momo, sure loves this snack. I always use it if I want to teach him new tricks or commands because he will do anything to get a bite. However, no matter how much your dog love the treat or how healthy you think the treat is, do not overfeed. Always give everything in moderation so it won’t upset their tummy.
